Jamal Charles has already been franchise/transition tagged in the past. That's why he has a # next to his name on your roster. Jamal Charles CANNOT be tagged again until he goes back in the common draft & he is INELIGIBLE for supplemental & comp picks per RULES 3. o. i and 3. p. i.

considering that it is being bought and is a one year deal.... Pretty sure that was the case last year because we transition tagged Julio Jones, who had previously been franchised prior to us trading for him.

if player is on a new team (which charles is because I traded for him with IP) they are reset as new players and considered to have no tag history

The Only time a player's tag history is reset is when he goes through the common draft. That rule has been constant since before last season (since we created the transition tag I'm pretty sure). The only exception is when a new owner comes into the league and we reset his players. This is why Spence cannot tag Seattle, etc...

I was going on what I read on the first page of the rules... otherwise I never jump on the two deals that I did adding $11M to my salary cap and all the while giving away only $1M which happened to be two starting running backs with high upside and great trade value, I thought, anyways...?

Here is the relevant rule.

p. TRANSITION TAG RULE (optional for owners) – COST IS $33 – updated 8/27/15
i. Any player who has been tagged previously (franchise or transition) cannot be tagged again until they re-enter the common draft and are re-drafted. Even if they switch teams through trade, the new team cannot tag them. Also, any player that is coming off a tag is ineligible for draft pick compensation (either comp or supp).
1. 1 TRANSITIONAL TAG MAX per season
a. The player’s salary that gets transition tagged gets cut in half for that season.
b. If traded, the player returns to the original salary.
c. The player can be put on Injured Reserve (IR).
d. That player is not eligible for a compensatory pick.

if the two deals that made my salary cap swell do not happen.... just sayin, if there is no transition tag available to me it puts me in a spot that is almost impossible to be competitive without some serious football gods assistance

i. If a player HAS EVER BEEN TAGGED in any way, by any team, he CANNOT be tagged again until he goes through the common draft.

ii. If a player HAS EVER BEEN TAGGED in any way, by any team, he is INELIGIBLE for the supplemental draft, or for a comp pick until going back through the common draft.

iii. All players WHO HAVE BEEN TAGGED IN THE PAST are now marked as formerly tagged on the rosters.

iv. If a player is on a new team (MN, WJD, HP) they are reset as new players and they are considered to have no tag history.



v. Any player CUT between when KEEPERS ARE TURNED IN and the beginning of the MAIN DRAFT

This has always meant as a brand new team with a new owner. This rule was written directly for 2 of your new teams: WJD - Robert's new team in 2012, and HP - Tom's new team in 2010)
